Fly from Baku to Lvov (or Lviv as it is known locally), an open-air city-museum with the central pedestrian area of the city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See the Opera House, the Museum of Ethnography with its "Statue of Liberty", the birthplace of Masoch and his life story and the Temples of Lviv. You’ll also walk along the streets which the Austrian emperors and the kings of Poland, Russian Tsar Peter I and Nicholas II walked. Check into your hotel for two nights. Meals: B/D

Today visit the remaining core sights of Lviv (that we didn’t get to the previous day) and also make the one-hour drive to the ancient Olesko Castle, which without doubt is one of the most beautiful decorations in the treasury of Ukrainian if not European history. The strong walls of this unique building have kept the kings’ secrets for hundreds of years with the first historical mention of the castle dating back to 1327. For a considerable time, the Olesko Castle’s territory served as a playground for cinema studios in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Poland. We will also drive to the Carpathian Mountains to see Tustan - sandstone rocks which formed 25 million years ago and created a picturesque complex of exotic forms. Then, visit Volosyanka village and for those who wish to, we can take a cable carriage chair to the top of the mountain. Dinner will be at a local restaurant near the hotel. B/D

Travel like the locals and take the train to Kiev, Ukraine’s capital city. The trip will take about six hours – plenty of time to enjoy the scenery as we travel from the west towards the other side of the country. On arrival late in the afternoon, there’s free time to explore after checking in to the hotel for two nights. Dinner is at the hotel. B/D

Day 4 KIEV:

Travel back more than 1,500 years to the city’s birth and discover landmarks that represent Kiev (Kyiv) through the ages. Today’s tour includes a fair bit of walking while you see Old Kyiv Hill with its oak tree more than 500 years old and see where Kyiv city was founded. Visit St Volodymyr Cathedral, the masterpiece of neo-Byzantine style and the main temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The tour also takes in Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, temples of Podil and the aristocratic mansions of the Pechersk district. Drive to Starokyivskaya mountain (prepare to make a wish!) and walk the Andriyivskyy descent, which is considered a local Montmartre. B/D

Depart Kiev and journey to Chernobyl, famous as the site of the 1986 nuclear disaster at the Nuclear Power Plant. Explore the abandoned city and experience incredible sights within the exclusion zone, now a fascinating ghost town where time has stood still for 32 years. Late in the evening, depart for home.  B
