India is the world’s largest democracy and has a population second only to China. It is often described as a multitude of countries in one.  There are many different peoples and many different cultures that make up its  29 states.

Put aside any pre-conceived ideas you may have about Southern India. Firstly, it is dramatically different to the North. While it still has some sizeable cities, there is far less crowding and far less poverty.  It has wide-open spaces and is generally very green and very fertile. There are mountains, plains, jungles, farmland and vast waterways. The people are generally warm and friendly.

On our small group tour, you’ll learn about the region’s ancient, medieval and more recent colonial history. You will visit small villages, larger townships and even larger cities and observe the locals go about their day. In the villages you’ll be greeted with wonderful smiles from children and adults alike.

You’ll also see a plethora of wildlife in world class national parks. India’s South has healthy wildlife reserves and nation al parks. It is not uncommon to spot tigers, leopards, elephants,  sloth bears, dear, jackal and a whole lot more. In fact, at times, you can feel like you are on a safari in Africa, not India!

If you appreciate your food, you may feel you have arrived in heaven. The dishes from this part of the world are outstanding. It’s hard to believe how good, simple vegetables can be when you are in this part of the world and on tour, you’ll have the opportunity to try the different cuisines from the many regions that Southern India offers.

There are many highlights on this tour and in fact, every day has something new and different. The surreal, house boat experience on the tranquil backwaters of Kerala will stay with you forever. The sun set will blow your mind away!

You may never want to leave the tranquillity of Kumarkom. Indulge yourself in a local style massage and then "float"away.  Cochi’s Chinese fishing port and the overall buzz of this wonderful colonial city is a great place to stroll. People watch and soak up the atmosphere. Nagahole National Park is world class. You’ll be stunned at the abundance of wildlife.

Finally, Mysore’s markets are so amazingly bright and colourful, your photos will look fake - and then there are her Palaces.  Enough said – go see them for yourself!
