Canada is generally regarded as one of the most scenic places on the planet. The world’s second largest country in area has many varied landscapes from mountains, vast plains, ice-capped regions, thousands of lakes and an extensive rugged coastline. Vikings landed in Newfoundland around a thousand years ago, however, Europeans first arrived in the late 15th century when Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto – on behalf of King Henry VII of England – documented bays full of fish and forests full of wildlife. By the early 16th century, the French were sending their own explorers and settled Quebec. Later the British were settling colonies around Hudson Bay. As was the norm in these times, the major Colonialists fought over territories and eventually in 1763, the Treaty of Paris – subsequent to the 7 Year War in Europe – ceded North America to the British.
